Please take just a few minutes to read this web page. In a rapidly changing world where more material possessions are made increasingly available, there are millions of children who each day are denied the basic human rights:- Food, Education and Health Care. These rights are expected by the decreasing percentage of worlds population who control an increasing percentage of the worlds wealth. The Save The Children charity is working in over 70 countries, including the U.K., to help give children these basic rights and so the greater chance of a healthy, happy and secure childhood. In 1999/2000 the charity raised £100 million, of which 85% was spent directly on child welfare related projects throughout the world. Online donations: https://savethechildren.safeserver.com/forms/donation.shtml You could make a significant difference to life of at least one of these children with less effort than it would take to eat a chocolate bar that you don't really need. £1 (bag of crisps and chocolate bar) will buy an identity bracelet that allows young children to be traced when separated from their families during war or emergency. £4 (pint of lager and glass of wine) pays for the basic writing equipment required by children to attend schools in Kosovo. £12 (CD album) buys enough plastic sheeting to house a family made homeless by flooding or other disasters. £20 (cheap night out) vaccinates 4 children in West Africa against 7 preventable, but fatal diseases. £48 (a duvet cover and pillow case set) pays for the training of a HIV/AIDS child carer in Ghana. £100 (pair of designer jeans) provides alternative job training for a young person forced to work in the gold mines of West Africa. |
